The Town of Port Hedland is aware that Mayor Peter Carter is engaged in private legal proceedings which have been the subject of recent media reports.
It is not appropriate for The Town to comment on these personal matters other than to state clearly that ratepayer resources are not involved in any way.
The Town of Port Hedland has a formal Code of Conduct for Council Members, Committee Members and Candidates adopted in April 2021 pursuant to Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations 2021. This includes disclosure of interests.
If Council receives a formal complaint about any Councillor’s behaviour, and/or non-disclosure of interests, this is dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Conduct and the relevant legislation.
At this stage the Town has not received sufficient material to necessitate a referral to the relevant agencies.
Any person is able to make individual complaints to these relevant agencies, including the Department of Local Government, Public Sector Commission and Corruption and Crime Commission.
