Recent reports from the public have advised that needles and syringes are being found in community spaces. This is an unfortunate and serious matter, as our community’s health and well-being are a key priority for the Town.
We want to ensure we are helping to maintain community spaces that are safe and enjoyable, but we also want to empower our community with the knowledge about what to do if they come across a needle in a public space. Safety is a collaborative responsibility that happens across a range of agencies, and whilst we endeavor to stop these incidences from occurring, sometimes we need your help.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A NEEDLE STICK INJURY?
- Wash it: wash the area gently with soap and running tap water as soon as possible.
- Cover it: apply an antispetic and a clean dressing.
- Report it: obtain prompt medical advice from your local doctor or hospital emergency department, preferably within 24 hours.
- Dispose it: dispose of the needle safely.
