Outdoor Storytime, Under the Yarning Tree 2025

Outdoor Storytime Under the Yarning Tree is a vibrant, award-winning and interactive literacy program held at South Hedland Library.

Launched in 2023 and inspired by a successful Indigenous literacy pilot program in 2022, this much-loved initiative brings children, families, and the community together.

The sessions are designed to be inclusive, free-flowing and flexible, with activities catering to a range of ages and abilities.

For younger children, it’s a chance to build on fine motor skills or foundational skills like sitting attentively and socialising, while older children can enjoy more challenging craft and interactive storytelling.

Held in collaboration with local schools, childcare centres and community organisations, Outdoor Storytime creates a fun and welcoming space to support early childhood education across Hedland.

The program is delivered in collaboration with the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership, and Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation, with many other local organisations lending their support.

The event is held outside, under the shady trees and is a free-flowing morning of activities, creative and sensory play, music, and of course - stories.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn and grow together! We look forward to seeing you at our next session!
