Sport plays such an important role in small communities like ours, providing social connections as well as health and wellbeing outcomes. The Community Sports Awards recognise the talent, ambition and contribution of individuals and groups from across Hedland.
Cash awards of $1,000 will be presented to winners in each individual category, while the group category winner will receive $2,000.
Award Categories
- Sporting Group of the Year
- Awarded to an organisation who has demonstrated outstanding work and contribution to the Pilbara sporting community in the areas of organisational development, people development and participation within their chosen sport
- Official of the Year
- Awarded to an individual who displays strength and character and/or provided considerable achievement, support to the development of individuals/teams in their chosen sport.
- Coach of the Year
- Awarded to an individual who displays strength and character and/or provided considerable achievement, support to the development of individuals/teams in their chosen sport.
- Volunteer of the Year
- Awarded to an individual who has displayed outstanding conduct as a volunteer in the support, administration and delivery of services to the sport within the Pilbara region.
- Junior Sports Person of the Year
- Awarded to an individual whom has achieved outstanding success in their sport.
- Senior Sports Person of the Year
- Awarded to an individual whom has achieved outstanding success in their sport.
- Access and Inclusion Award
- Awarded to an individual with disability or lived experience for their participation and contribution to sport in any capacity.
Nominate a Local Legend
Who can submit a nomination?
Any sporting club/association, committee, school or community member.
Who can be nominated?
Nominees from all categories must currently reside in Port Hedland or surrounding areas and meet the award specific qualification criteria detailed in the award Terms & Conditions (PDF 180 KB).
When do nominations close?
Nominations will close at midnight on 11 October 2026.
Can I submit a paper form?
Nominations will only be accepted via the online nomination form.
