Welcome to the Town of Port Hedland Libraries!

At the core of our libraries and services, are our library staff who share their passion for libraries, literacy and connection with the community each and every day.

Our strategy takes a holistic approach to the delivery of library services, recognising the need for dynamic programming that engages all ages.

We are honoured to have the opportunity to provide our community with services, programs and resources that meet your needs, and will always be an inclusive and open space for you and your family to enjoy.

What is Outdoor Storytime, Under the Yarning Tree?

Outdoor Storytime Under the Yarning Tree is a vibrant, award-winning and interactive literacy event held at South Hedland Library.

Launched in 2023 and inspired by a successful Indigenous literacy pilot program in 2022, this much-loved initiative brings children, families, and the community together.

Held in collaboration with local schools, childcare centres and community organisations, Outdoor Storytime creates a fun and welcoming space to support early childhood education across Hedland.

The event is held outside, under the shady trees and is a free-flowing morning of activities, creative and sensory play, music, and of course - stories.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn and grow together! We look forward to seeing you at our next session.
