The expansion will substantially increase childcare capacity from 43 to 134 places, helping address an ongoing shortage in Hedland

Families filled the Matt Dann Theatre & Cinema on Saturday for a magical afternoon as Stellarphant came to town.

Mayor Jacinta Behrend recently spoke on ABC Pilbara’s Mornings program about Celebrate Hedland, highlighting what’s in store this year and why the event is such a great chance for our community to connect, celebrate and showcase what makes Hedland unique.

Celebrate Hedland returns this week, bringing the community together at its new location, the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub, for an afternoon and evening of connection, entertainment and local pride.

The Town of Port Hedland marked the start of National Families Week with a vibrant and well attended World’s Biggest Play Day at Shay Gap Park on Friday 15 May.

Another summer of live music has come to a close in Hedland, with the Always Good Nights summer series finishing on a high after four sold out shows and a packed finale at the Civic Centre Gardens.

The ‘Hedland Plan’ will be informed by feedback from the community, helping to shape a practical, strategic and forward-looking roadmap for the Town of Port Hedland’s future.

Joining the lineup this year is Costa Georgiadis, the much loved host of ABC’s Gardening Australia. Known for his infectious energy and all consuming passion for plants and people, Costa takes great pleasure in bringing people together and connecting through nature.

Running from 3.00pm to 5.00pm at the South Hedland Town Square, the event will bring together residents, services, and local leaders in a shared commitment to safety, respect and change.

The Pilbara has been identified as a priority region under the program, reflecting the scale of current and future workforce demand linked to ongoing economic activity.

The Town of Port Hedland will collaborate with the Alliance and other mining communities facing similar challenges, share evidence and insights, and push for solutions that improve liveability, resilience, and long-term sustainability.

Eighty years on, the anniversary march and community gathering served not only as a commemoration of history, but as a living expression of culture, resilience and collective strength, ensuring the story and significance of the Pilbara Strike continues to be shared with future generations.

A smoking ceremony was held in the Council Chambers at the Port Hedland Civic Centre to mark the commencement of the newly appointed Council and acknowledge the significance of beginning this next chapter in a culturally respectful way.
