Proposed Community Centre and Associated Car Parking – Lot 50 Parker Street, South Hedland
The Town of Port Hedland (the Town) has received an application to use and/or develop land for the following purpose and public comments are invited.
The development comprises a modular single storey building, with a verandah provided around all four sides of the building. The internal building layout includes a centrally located hall, three meeting rooms, kitchen, store, cleaners area and toilets.
To the west of the building is a car park accessed from Parker Street comprising 27 parking bays (two of which are universally accessible) and a minibus parking bay. Soft landscaping is proposed around the fringe of the car park and pedestrian walkways. The typical operation of the community hall is stated to be as follows:
- On weekdays during various times between 9am-9pm, the community hall will be used for community, social and recreational activities such as play and craft groups, senior citizen activities and various other health and lifestyle groups.
- On weekdays, attendance will be variable but is likely to typically be up to 20 people.
- The existing congregation comprises 80 people, however this is expected to grow to approximately 120 people in the future. It is expected that this number of people will attend the site each weekend for church services.
- When the site experiences maximum attendance in the future, approximately two thirds of attendees will access the site by car and sufficient car parking is provided to meet that demand. The remaining attendees will access the site via minibus organised and run by the church, as well as bicycle, public transport and taxis.
Details of the proposal are available to the public HERE. The Town invites written submissions from the public, which must be received by 29 September 2025.
