Hedland Economic Development and Diversification Fund

The Town of Port Hedland has established the Hedland Economic Development and Diversification Fund (EDDF) to encourage sustainable economic growth, local job creation and improved liveability across Port Hedland. The EDDF aims to support new and existing business initiatives that contribute to the overall economic prosperity and vitality of the Hedland community.

About the Economic Development & Diversification Fund

The EDDF consists of two funding streams

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT STREAM

The Business Development Stream is designed to support local businesses and organisations generate new revenue opportunities through the development of feasibility studies and businesses cases.

The Business Development Stream seeks to:

  • assist local businesses and non-profit organisations deliver new services that enhance liveability and quality of place.
  • support local businesses and non-profit organisations access funding opportunities through Western Australia and Commonwealth Government programs.

ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION STREAM

The Economic Diversification Stream is designed to support new or expanded business operations with demonstrable benefits to local employment, economic output and/or liveability

The Economic Diversification Stream seeks to:

  • attract new businesses to Port Hedland
  • encourage existing Port Hedland businesses to expand their operations
  • increase local employment, encourage the growth and drive diversification of the Port Hedland economy
  • provide additional services and amenity to Port Hedland residents, businesses and visitors.

How the apply

Expression of Interest

Interested applicants are required to meet with the Town of Port Hedland’s Economic Development unit to discuss their project prior to submitting their applications.

Applicants will not be able to progress to Full Application if the project has not discussed the with the Town. 

Full application

Applications for the Economic Development and Diversification Fund must be submitted through the Town’s SmartyGrants portal.

Applications are assessed by a three-person panel. The funding panel will make a recommendation of full, part or no funding to the Town of Port Hedland Council for their endorsement. The panel will consider all applications in the context of its ability to support other projects through the Economic Development and Diversification Fund.

The Town reserves the right to request further information from the applicant regarding the project as well as the right to reject any application for any reason.

Key dates

Applications to the Hedland Economic Development and Diversification Fund can be made at any time. The Town will assess applications quarterly. The closing date for 2023/24 assessment rounds are:
