Aquatic Facilities

An aquatic facility is a man-made body of water used for sport, recreation or educational water activities, and include; aquatic centres, waterslides, water-parks, schools, hospitals, hotels, caravan parks, mine sites and residential developments with 30 or more dwelling units or apartments.
New aquatic facility must be approved by the Department of Health, and the Town’s Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) will conduct compliance inspections of aquatic facilities, in addition to water quality testing, and sampling on a monthly basis.
The EHOs advise pool operators of appropriate actions to take in response to any non-compliance issues against the Health (Aquatic Facilities) Regulations 2007 and the Code of Practice for the Design, Construction, Operation, Management & Maintenance of Aquatic Facilities (the Code).
The monthly sampling program consists of measuring the concentrations of free chlorine and pH and laboratory testing for microbiological parameters.
