Spread cheer with 2022 Festive Lights Competition

Published on Tuesday, 25 October 2022 at 2:58:42 PM

The festive season is just around the corner and Port Hedland residents and businesses can help spread the cheer as part of the 2022 Festive Lights Competition.

As well as Best Residential Display (winner and runner-up awards) and People’s Choice, this year’s competition features the new Best Business Display Category.

Nominations open on November 2 and close on November 30.  Residents and businesses can register their addresses without needing to have the display completed. Displays need to be finished by Monday, December 5, when judging occurs.

An interactive map will be available from December 2 pinpointing the displays throughout Hedland to give the community a chance to hit the streets and check them out.

The Port Hedland Festive Lights Competition is supported by Gold Sponsor Horizon Power, Silver Sponsors Europcar and Pilbara Ports Authority and presented by the Town of Port Hedland. Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: Best Residential Display winner $850; Best Residential Display runner-up $700; Best Business Display Winner prize up to the value of $500; and People’s Choice winner $350.

Mayor Peter Carter said the competition was about encouraging community togetherness over the festive period.

“Decorating our homes and businesses with festive lights and displays is a wonderful way to light up our streets and community,” Mayor Carter said.

“The quality of displays every year is amazing and the new category gives businesses a chance to get in the festive spirit as well.

“The displays are a great way for families to get out and about over the festive period, spread some cheer and enjoy the creativity behind the displays.”
