Renowned Australian artists will converge on Port Hedland as part of a new major music and arts event encompassing six days of entertainment.

The Town of Port Hedland is proud to launch Odyssea – Hedland Music and Arts Journey, bringing Australia’s most prolific artists and national treasures to the Civic Centre Gardens from Friday 18 - Sunday 27 August 2023.

Surf rock band King Stingray will headline the Odyssea event with a concert on Saturday 19 August, with support from West Coast favourites South Summit, Perth Indie-Rock band Spici Water and Broome local Adele Oliver.

Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said he was thrilled to announce the exciting new annual event.

“The Hedland community has missed having an annual music and arts event and I’m pleased to be able to reveal our plans for a fresh new offering spread over two weekends,” Mayor Carter said.

The double arts weekend will open with a chance for people to dust off their dancing shoes with the electronic sounds of Fremantle DJ Josh Grainger, alongside roving performances, interactive lighting installations and delicious food offerings.

Rounding out the opening weekend will be the free Kids Day Out dedicated to children and young families, with Australian music icon Peter Combe performing his greatest hits for the young and young at heart.

The second weekend will include the Big Ole Comedy Night on Friday 24 August, while on Saturday 25 August, Port Hedland will welcome the Adelaide Fringe Festival sensation 27 Club. The event finale will include a closing party on Sunday, 26 August with Afrotropik Beats, which includes Seychelles musician, Grace Barbe and support acts from Soukouss Internationale and Tina Zando Band.

“The Council thought carefully about how to design an event that appealed to a range of different groups within our community and enabled shift workers to participate,” Mayor Carter said.

“As a result, Odyssea was created – a music and arts journey across two weekends in August with a different style of entertainment on offer each day.

“There is something for everyone on offer at Odyssea – an event that pays homage to our home by the sea and all the different adventures on offer over the two weekends.

"We also thank BHP for supporting this community event as our Principal Partner."

BHP General Manager Port, Cindy Dunham, said they were pleased to support the event.

“BHP is proud to sponsor the inaugural Odyssea Hedland Music & Arts journey, celebrating talented local artists from right here in WA.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring the Pilbara community together through music and entertainment.”

Details of the full event will be released over the coming week, with tickets on sale on Friday, 23 June. For more info, visit: https://www.porthedland.wa.gov.au/events/odyssea-hedland/2698
