Nominations are now open for the 2023 Town of Port Hedland and BHP Community Sports Awards. The Awards recognise and celebrate the talent, ambition and contribution of individuals and groups from across Hedland.
The Award categories include Sportswoman of the Year; Sportsman of the Year; Junior Sportswoman of the Year; Junior Sportsman of the Year; Sporting Group of the Year; Coach of the Year; Umpire/Official of the Year; Volunteer of the Year and Service to Sport.
Alongside recognition of their achievement and contributions to our sporting community, there are cash prizes (thanks to our generous sponsors) available to award winners which include $1,000 to individuals and $2,000 to Sporting Group of the Year.
Mayor Peter Carter said sport played a crucial role in supporting the liveability of Hedland.
“Hedland would not be the inclusive and vibrant community it is without sport,” he said
“The awards are a great opportunity to celebrate our sporting achievements, as well as promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes and social connections."
“I encourage residents to think of a club, organisation or someone who has made a positive impact this year to our sporting community before the close of nominations on 27 September 2023."
