Construction of Sutherland Street seawall set to start

Published on Friday, 6 May 2022 at 9:19:55 AM

Construction of the Sutherland Street seawall is projected to start within the next week, an investment that will strengthen Hedland’s coastline for the future. The location for the seawall’s construction was identified as susceptible to coastal erosion and inundation as part of the Town’s Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP). Construction is projected to last until November 2022, with works impacting pedestrian access to the Sutherland Street shared footpath for the duration. Signs will be in place advising path users of alternative pedestrian routes: daily joggers and footpath users should be aware of these changes. In the coming week, heavy equipment will be mobilised at the site to facilitate the works, with increased heavy vehicle traffic expected during the construction phase. Construction will occur between 7:00am and 5:30pm Monday to Saturday and 8:00am to 5:00pm on Sundays and public holidays.Construction will start from Crawford Street, working towards Clark Street.Drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and residents are asked to please be mindful of signage, workers and machinery in the area for the duration of the works. The Town thanks the community for their cooperation.Click here to learn more about the project: https://www.porthedland.wa.gov.au/port-hedland-sea-walls.aspx
