The Town of Port Hedland celebrated the achievements and positive impact of young people in the community with a range of events for Youth Week 2023.
Mayor Peter Carter said Youth Week was about empowering young people and encouraging participation and connection with a range of events planned.
“The theme of Youth Week 2023 was Becoming: with others we dream,” Mayor Carter said.
“The Town has a dream and vision for Hedland and young people will undoubtedly play a big part in shaping our future.
“Our recently established Youth Advisory Council creates a partnership between the Town and young people to better inform us on their ideas, skills and perspectives of issues that impact them.”
A packed schedule of events included outdoor movie sessions, a multi-sports community carnival, the Hedland Youth Awards, a Celebration of Culture day and rounded out with a Youth Week Party on Friday evening.
Port Hedland’s Youth Week activities were originally due to start on Friday, 14 April, however some needed to be rescheduled due to Cyclone Ilsa.
“It was terrific to see so many young people out and about for the events and activities in Hedland over the past week,” Mayor Carter said.
“Thankfully Cyclone Ilsa pretty much stayed away from us and we were able to reschedule events to ensure everything went ahead.”
