Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling has appointed Carl Askew as the Town of Port Hedland’s next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), succeeding David Pentz in February 2020.

Mr Askew has been the CEO of the Shire of Wyndham, East Kimberley since 2015. He has over 21 years of senior management and leadership experience, delivering positive change to communities across Western Australia.

Mr Askew was CEO of the Town of Cottesloe from 2009 to 2015 and Executive Director of Community Services of the City of Armadale from 2004 to 2009.

Mr Askew has extensive experience leading Council operations across governance, infrastructure, community development and corporate services.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling welcomed the appointment of Mr Askew, pointing to his track record of local government leadership.

“Mr Askew is an exemplary local government leader who will continue the positive change implemented by our current CEO, David Pentz.

“Importantly, Mr Askew is experienced in leading local government in regional Western Australia, appreciating the unique challenges faced by communities outside of metropolitan Perth.

“He understands how to align strategic decision making in government with the needs of the community, strengthened by his ability to develop and foster stakeholder relationships.

“Since 2017, Mr Pentz has built a strong legacy of evolving the Town’s organisational structure, improving transparency and ensuring decision making derives from community sentiment. He has provided stable leadership during tumultuous times, delivered a ten year strategic community plan, corporate business plan, long term financial plan, and drove reinvestment in Hedland’s core infrastructure assets.

“I’d like to thank Mr Pentz for his service during his tenure, and I look forward to working with Mr Askew next year.”
