Green light for development

A $51 million nine-storey residential development in South Hedland has been approved by the Regional Development Assessment Panel.

The unanimous approval gives developer Azzura Corporation the green light to begin Stage 1 of the apartment complex on Colebatch Way which will include 55 one-bedroom and 53 two-bedroom units along with hospitality and retail outlets on the ground floor.

The development includes an adjacent communal open space with playground and a rooftop communal open space with pool and bar.

Town of Port Hedland councillors in December voted unanimously to recommend the RDAP approve the development, which was confirmed on Thursday.

Mayor Peter Carter said the development would help reinvigorate the South Hedland town centre while offering new housing options for the community.

“We know Hedland is facing significant housing challenges and Council is committed to taking a proactive approach to helping find solutions,” Mayor Carter said.

“This is an exciting development for Hedland and we look forward to the first stage of Azzura Square becoming a reality in the very near future.”

Mayor Carter and Deputy Mayor Tim Turner were both members of the Regional Development Assessment Panel.
