Be Brave, Make Change at the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast this May

Published on Monday, 16 May 2022 at 10:49:09 AM

The Town and Pilbara Ports Authority are hosting a National Reconciliation Week Breakfast from 8:00am to 10:00am, Friday 27 May 2022 in the Civic Centre’s Gratwick Hall.

The event will provide an opportunity to come together, listen to guest speakers and enjoy a delicious breakfast.

National Reconciliation Week is celebrated annually from 27 May until 3 June. This year’s theme is Be Brave, Make Change: a challenge to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

The week is a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Reconciliation involves building positive, respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians; enabling us to work together to close the gaps and to achieve a shared sense of fairness and justice.

Mayor Peter Carter encourages local residents to RSVP to attend the Breakfast.

“The Town’s National Reconciliation Week Breakfast gives the community a chance to come together, reflect on the meaning of Be Brave, Make Change, listen to guest speakers and enjoy a delicious breakfast.”

“The ultimate goal of reconciliation is to build strong and trusting relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians, as a foundation for success and to enhance our national wellbeing.”

“The Town is committed to closing the gaps in Hedland by improving understanding and respect between traditional owners and the broader community.”

“I’d like to thank the Pilbara Ports Authority for making this event possible.”
