Gifts and Contributions to Travel

Elected Members and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of all Local Governments in Western Australia are required to disclose gifts in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1995 and its subsidiary legislation, to promote transparency and accountability.  Gifts received  with a value over $300 and received in their capacity as Elected Members or CEO, are to be disclosed and included on a publicly available register.

Under the Town of Port Hedland's Code of Conduct, all employees are required to disclose the receipt of a gift to the CEO within 10 days. 

Gift disclosures made by employees for a notifiable gift received from a person, who is undertaking or seeking to undertake an activity involving a local government discretion, will be published on the Town's website.

Prior to the amendments to the Local Government Act 1995 that came into effect in October 2019, Local Governments were required to maintain a register of gifts and travel contributions received by Councillors and relevant employees.  This register in now redundant but is required to remain publicly available.
