Wendy Binks Joins Children's Book Week

Published on Thursday, 23 August 2018 at 12:02:16 PM

Acclaimed children’s author and illustrator, Wendy Binks, will be coming to Port Hedland next week to help celebrate Children’s Book Week.

The aim of Children’s Book Week is to promote literacy within the community and create free, accessible opportunities for children in the Pilbara.

Throughout the week, Wendy and Library staff will be visiting schools and child care facilities around Hedland to promote a message of literacy and learning.

Wendy’s children’s book, “Where’s Stripey”, won the children’s category in the 2005 WA Premier’s Literary Awards and has sold over 120,000 copies.

Mayor Camilo Blanco said the week was a time to reflect on the importance of literacy and the difference it makes in the lives of young people.

“We are fortunate to have an author like Wendy come to Port Hedland and share her passion for children’s storytelling and illustration with the community.

“The Week’s theme this year is “Find Your Treasure”, asking people to reflect on the important things we value in our lives.

“I hope people get the opportunity to come along to the special story time session with Wendy on Tuesday at 10.30am at Port Hedland Library.”
