Rowan's Walk for Suicide Prevention this Saturday 6am

Published on Tuesday, 11 August 2020 at 3:01:30 PM

The third annual Rowan’s Walk for suicide prevention will take place on Saturday 15 August, 6am from the Redbank Bridge Lookout Area. This initiative seeks to raise awareness of suicide in the Port Hedland and wider Pilbara community.

Started by local man Rowan Dann, the event brings together local residents, community leaders and industry representatives to reflect on the impact suicide has in our lives and the wider community.

With Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rates of suicide at around 2.6 times the rate of the broader population, Mr Dann's intention is to highlight the crisis.

Disproportionately affecting men and boys, shining a light on the issue, Mr Dann seeks to encourage people to reach out and ask for help.

The walk will be followed by an NRLWA State of Mind Rugby League Game, hosted by South Hedland Cougars RLFC Inc. at Marie Marland Reserve.

All are invited to come together and participate.
