The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that a RED ALERT will be active for Port and South Hedland from 3pm today 23rd March.

The Cyclone is expected to cross the Pilbara Coast Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning as a Category 4 system, bringing severe wind gusts, heavy rain and dangerous tidal levels.

The system has sustained winds near the centre of 195 km/h, with wind gusts up to 270 km/h.

  • Disconnect electrical appliances and turn off gas supply valves
  • Go immediately to the strongest, safest part of your house or the building you are in (i.e. internal hallway, bathroom or toilet) or to Hedland’s evacuation centre – the JD Hardie Youth Zone.
