The Hedland Crocs will take on the Karratha Marlins at the South Hedland Aquatic Centre this Saturday, 13 February from 4pm to 6pm, as part of the inaugural Best of the Pilbara Water Polo event. Community members are invited to attend to spectate the event.

This event is a precursor game to the WA State Country Water Polo Championships, being held in Bunbury from Friday 26 February to Monday 1 March. Hedland and Karratha men’s and women’s teams will be competing against other teams including Geraldton, Peel Bunbury and Busselton.

Mobile Concreting Solutions (MCS) are sponsoring the event, providing a prize purse of $5,000: $3,000 to the winner and $2,000 to the runner-up. The money will go towards the team’s trip to the WA State Country Water Polo Championships.

The Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s teams will play one game each. Both matches will be refereed by nationally and internationally recognised referee, Fiona Haigh.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged local residents to come along, cheer the players and enjoy an evening poolside.

“I’m pleased South Hedland Aquatic Centre will be hosting the inaugural Best of the Pilbara Water Polo event, bringing plenty of bite for players and spectators alike.

“This is an inaugural event set to alternate between Port Hedland and Karratha, raising the profile of water polo across the region in the years ahead.”

Please be advised the 50 metre swimming pool will be closed to the general public for the duration of the event.
