A new library will be opening soon at the Port Hedland Boulevard shopping centre, delivering on the Town’s commitment to re-establish a library in Port Hedland.

The original Port Hedland Library site on Dempster Street closed in August 2019, when Council endorsed the site as suitable for transition into child care service delivery space.

Following this endorsement, the search began for a new location to house the next chapter for the Port Hedland Libraries.

The new site at The Boulevard will feature a modern and accessible layout, a lounge area, children’s section, computer stations and will be in a high foot traffic area.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the new facility would once again provide Port Hedland residents with a place to read, learn and grow.

“I’m proud to be delivering a new library site in Port Hedland, featuring amenities which will make it well and truly ready to deliver 21st Century library services.

“The site will have a renewed focus on digital engagement, recognising the important role computers and electronic devices play in the delivery of e-books, e-catalogues and learning services for all ages.

“South Hedland Library will continue to serve the needs of South Hedland residents.

“Our aim is to create a welcoming, open and accessible facility which invites people of all backgrounds to discover the friendly faces and literary adventures of Port Hedland Libraries.”
