Have your say to make the Port Hedland Libraries a place for you

Published on Monday, 26 October 2020 at 10:41:45 AM

Community members are invited to have their say to inform the development of the Town’s 2020 Library Strategy, with face to face consultation and an online survey set to uncover insights to guide the next five years of library service provision in the Hedland Local Government Area.

The community consultation period will run until Friday 6th November, providing residents, community groups and businesses with the opportunity to have their say on a range of factors, such as which programs the libraries should run and how to make services more accessible into the future.

The Library Strategy will deliver on a number of outcomes in the Town’s Strategic Community Plan, including that present and future facilities and requirements of the Town are planned for and developed in-line with relevant standards and community needs.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged all residents to get involved and have a say to inform the 2020 Library Strategy.

“We want to make Port Hedland Libraries attractive places to learn, grow and play into the future, which is why we’re inviting community members to voice their views in the development of the 2020 Library Strategy.

“Libraries serve different purposes for different people: if you have young children, you may be a regular storytime attendee. If you’re a student, perhaps you utilise the online e-resources for research. We want to capture a broad cross section of the community in this consultation.

“Currently, there is the Port Hedland Library site at the Boulevard Shopping Centre, and the South Hedland Library on Leake Street, as well as a plethora of e-resources members can access. However, the Hedland Recreation Hubs masterplans also incorporate the vision of establishing new library sites in the future.

“With projected strong population growth over the next decade, the Town is committed to delivering a high standard of library services to meet increased demand over the next five years.”
