Have Your Say on Proposed Voluntary Buy-back Scheme

Published on Wednesday, 16 October 2019 at 3:59:46 PM

The State Government have announced a series of public consultation meetings to inform development of an industry-funded West End voluntary buy-back scheme.

The proposed scheme is part of the State Government’s response to the Port Hedland Dust Management Taskforce Report’s recommendations, released in 2018.

The meetings will give landowners, business and other stakeholders the opportunity to have their perspective on the appropriate terms and administrative arrangements for a scheme.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling welcomed the Government’s announcement and continued commitment to implementing the Report’s recommendations.

“These meetings give local residents and stakeholders the chance to have a say from the outset on a voluntary buy back scheme.

“This announcement builds on the October 2018 decision for the West End to be subject of Improvement Plan No. 50, which will give jurisdiction of the land west of McGregor and Lukis Street to the Western Australian Planning Commission.

“The objective is to give land owners in the area options moving forward, particularly those who have expressed concern about dust levels.

“The meetings will be led by the State Government appointed Ross Love, who will report back on the information garnered to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Planning Minister Rita Saffioti.

“I encourage all interested locals to attend one of the meetings on such a critical issue.”
