Facelift for South Hedland Entrance

Published on Friday, 27 March 2020 at 11:18:23 AM

Residents are invited to have their say on the proposed South Hedland Entry Statement works, which are proposed to take place on Hamilton Road between Hedland Senior High School and Forrest Circle.

The objective of the proposed works is to improve the appearance and perception of South Hedland. The works include increased shade, a more pleasant pedestrian environment and better usability.

The Entry Statement will also include more plants, drinking fountains, lighting, public art, landscaping, tree protection, seating, decorative paving and a pathway linking to Spinifex Hill Studio.

Final plans will be proposed at the April OCM following community consultation, which will then be released for tender to obtain contractors to complete the works.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the project is an essential part of the Town’s commitment to delivering the objectives of the Public Open Space Strategy.

“South Hedland is where most of our residents live, and it’s one of the first places tourists see when they’re driving down from the northern parts of WA: it’s important to make an excellent first impression.

“These proposed works will be a welcome upgrade to the area. We’re now asking for people to comment on the proposed plans. These comments will then be taken into consideration.

“Once the final plans are adopted, we can also move forward in identifying funding pathways to move the project forward.”
