The Town of Port Hedland Libraries are supporting the Children’s Book Council of Australia WA (CBCA WA) Branch’s series of virtual presentations from a diverse selection of WA authors, as part of CBCA WA’s Book Week Online Extension Program.

The presentations are supported by The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest and Healthyway, as well as the Go for 2 Fruit and 5 Veg initiative.

Each author will be featured on the CBCA WA’s YouTube channel, enabling anyone with access to a digital device to enjoy for free. These presentations are designed for 4 to 14 year olds and will be accessible until Saturday 27 February 2021.

Participating authors will include:

  • Deb Fitzpatrick – The Amazing Spencer Gray presentation
  • Dianne Wolfer – The Shark caller and the The Dog with Seven Names presentation
  • Katie Stewart – Creative process presentation on her illustration inspiration
  • Kitty Black – A Crocodile in the Family presentation
  • Kylie Howarth – Chip series and Fish Kids series of books presentation
  • Norman Jorgensen – The Smugglers Curse and the Wreckers Revenge presentation
  • Sally Murphy – Worse Things presentation
  • Steve Heron – Let your Kindness Shine presentation based on his latest book Ling Li’s Lantern

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged local families to go online and participate in the initiative.

“I commend the Children’s Book Council of Australia WA for enabling regional residents to connect with some of Australia’s best known authors online.

“Each presentation will run from twenty to forty five minutes each, covering a variety of topics and storytelling, such as embracing the creative process and letting your kindness shine through.
