Why is the project being rolled out?

The Port Hedland Sports & Community Hub (PHSCH) is one of the three sites that are part of the Town's Hedland Recreation Hubs initiative, representing the biggest investment in the Town's public infrastructure in decades. Hedland's population is anticipated to practically double from 15,000 now to almost 30,000 by 2041, therefore improved sporting and recreational amenity is required to meet demand. 

PHSCH will significantly revitalise Port Hedland's regional level sporting and recreation precinct and cater for a number of existing and new sport and recreation clubs, as well as the wider community. 

PHSCH combines four development stages: the first comprises the completion of all design works associated with the Community Centre and all supporting Civil Works for succeeding stages, as well as commencement of construction on the Community Centre. This building will cater for dance, martial arts, a local library and serve as the Town's emergency welfare centre (important during cyclones). Click here to view the Hedland Recreation Hubs website for more information.  ;

Construction Timeline

  • Construction is set to occur from 2021 - 2025

Project Partners

The Town will be partnering with the Australian and WA Governments, and industry, to deliver this important development at a projected cost of $38 million. We are open to funding collaborations across project packages.
