Pretty Pool Footbridge and Pathway Network Moves a Step Closer

Published on Thursday, 28 May 2020 at 1:59:06 PM

Council has acknowledged the submissions which were received as part of the public exhibition for the concept Pretty Pool footbridge and pathway network, which can now move to the detailed design stage.

Eight submissions were received over the 21 day public exhibition period, with responses overwhelmingly positive in support of option 1. This option requires shorter bridge and boardwalk lengths, provides views out to Pretty Pool beach, avoids mangrove and samphire flat vegetation and has a reduced footprint within the Aboriginal Registered Site.

M P Rogers & Associates (MRA) were engaged to investigate options for a pedestrian network in the Pretty Pool creek vicinity, delivering detailed environmental and site assessments to the Town.

The concept design features an aluminium footbridge running over the creek, connecting Matheson Drive with footpaths adjacent to Cooke Point residences.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP thanked the community for providing feedback on the concept design.

“With Council acknowledging the public submissions to the concept Pretty Pool footbridge and pathway network, the Town can now move to the detailed design stage of this important infrastructure project for Hedland’s future.

“I’d like to thank everyone who submitted their feedback, providing valuable information which will improve the usability of the Pretty Pool footbridge and pathway network once construction is complete.

“Pretty Pool is utilised by local and tourists alike for walking, cycling, photography and sun bathing, with this infrastructure project further activating and enhancing the area.

“I look forward to viewing the detailed designs and getting construction underway in the near future.”
