The Town of Port Hedland has taken ownership of a new portable CCTV trailer that will help keep Hedland safer.
The trailer has 24-hour remote monitoring with live video direct to South Hedland Police Station and includes two fixed and two movable cameras, and onboard alarm.
Mayor Peter Carter said the trailer would serve a number of purposes.
“Given it is portable, it can be transported to known hotspots to help curb crime,” Mayor Carter said.
“This will also be an important tool in helping us identify areas that may need permanent CCTV cameras.
“Also, the Town will be able to use the CCTV trailer as an added community safety measure at major events in Hedland.”
The trailer has full solar operation with a backup generator and 240v charging capability.
The Town last year adopted its Community Safety Plan 2023-2026 with Safer Spaces and Places being one of its priorities.
This includes providing local infrastructure, investment and maintenance of CCTV as well as partnering with WA Police to strategically manage placement of CCTV and upgrading software.
“Community safety is a high priority for the Town as we look to improve liveability and make Hedland a more attractive place to work and live,” Mayor Carter said.
“We are proud to partner with WA Police in a number of important initiatives to help engage our community and reduce crime.”
