Regional awards for sport stars

The Town of Port Hedland would like to congratulate All Hedland Touch, Michelle Cockie and Dylan Tarliton on their victories in the 2022 Pilbara Regional Sports Awards,

Held just before Christmas, the awards acknowledged and celebrated the sporting achievements of clubs and sportspeople from the local government areas of City of Karratha, Shire of Ashburton, Shire of East Pilbara and Town of Port Hedland.

All Hedland Touch won Organisation of the Year while Michelle Cockie took out Coach of the Year and Dylan Tarliton was honoured with Sportsperson of the Year.

All three were representing Hedland at the regional awards after winning their categories at the Town of Port Hedland and BHP Community Sports Awards in November.

All Hedland Touch – Organisation of the Year

Hedland Touch Association (HTA) is a non for profit sporting organisation aimed at managing and supporting local mixed touch teams. Originally formed almost 30 years ago, HTA supports 16 teams in two season running annually from Feb-Jun and Aug-Dec. HTA currently has over 400 players registered aged 11-60 from a diverse range of backgrounds. Touch football is a great non contact sport for men, women and juniors to get physical activity and contribute to Health & Wellbeing. HTA is a very open and welcoming sporting community that look forward to growing into a future club and giving back to the community.

In 2022 the Club achieved:
Senior State Title representatives
Hosted the North West Championship
Corporate Cup Games
Engaged in the TOPH Night Lights program
Referee and Coaching development

Michelle Cockie – Coach of the Year

Michelle is a passionate, committed and qualified coach who works hard to bring the best out of players both on and off court.

Michelle continues to break barriers and go from strength to strength, she is a real leader who puts the welfare of her players and community first. She strives for excellence in everything she does and provides an exceptional example and mentorship for the upcoming generations.

In 2022 Michelle has:
Coached under 16’s Port Hedland Association Development Squad
Coached Division 1 NW Netball Team
Head Coach of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Academy All Stars Team
Completed her Netball WA Intermediate Coaching Accreditation
Coach of Port Hedland Netball Association
Vice President of Dragons Netball Club

Dylan Tarliton – Sportsperson of the Year

Dylan is an outstanding student with a strong commitment to training despite a roster requiring 12hr shifts. He makes himself available as an instructor and willing volunteer. He was always encouraging of other students during high level competition and was a perfect sportsman congratulating his competitors after competition.

In 2022 Dylan:

Competed in the WA Taekwondo State Championships in July. He won gold medals in the Sparring Senior (74kg Division); Poomsae (technical movement) with a high technical score) and Poomsae Double (partnered with his wife -Lilly Elliot-Tarlinton.

He won pre-selection to the National Championships as a Western Australia representative and travelled to Bendigo to compete in early December.
