Construction of Wilson Street shared bike and pedestrian path

Published on Monday, 8 August 2022 at 1:32:04 PM

The construction of the Wilson Street shared bike and pedestrian park is tracking along, riding into town soon.

The Town is now constructing the Wilson Street shared bike and pedestrian path, which will link the cycle network from Redbank Bridge to Cooke Point Drive and McGregor Street in Port Hedland.

This project is made possible by a Western Australia Bicycle Network (WABN) grant from the Department of Transport.

Key benefits of the path include full connection between Port and South Hedland for cyclists and pedestrians; improved safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians along Wilson Street; encouraging active lifestyles by providing an additional pathway and strengthening Hedland’s overall pathway network to improve amenity and livability.

Currently, the path from South Hedland ceases at Redbank Bridge and does not extent to Port Hedland which hinders connectedness.

The WABN grant is one of the key actions detailed in the Western Australian Bicycle Network Plan 2014-2031, which sets out a framework for a safe and sustainable cycling network across WA.

During construction, we ask road users to please be mindful of signage, workers and machinery along the Great Northern Highway north of Redbank Bridge

We will announce to the community once the pathway is open for use.
