The Town of Port Hedland needs to undertake urgent maintenance work on the Wedgefield communication tower this weekend (7am Saturday 3 May – 5pm Sunday 4 May 2025).
Repairs need to be made on network cabling. During the urgent maintenance there will be no internet available at any of the Town of Port Hedland facilities located in South Hedland.
The Town of Port Hedland has established a temporary internet link at JD Hardie to support the AEC during the Federal election tomorrow. JD Hardie has been used for early voting and tomorrow, will be used as an AEC administrative hub and for interstate polling only. The AEC encourages South Hedland voters to cast their votes at Hedland Senior High School or Baler Primary School.
Town of Port Hedland facilities located in Port Hedland will not be impacted by this maintenance work.
What does this mean for the Town’s South Hedland facilities?
- JD Hardie – being used by the AEC to support the Federal election.
- The landfill – will open as scheduled.
- Matt Dann - movie screenings will go ahead as scheduled. Please bring cash for any purchases at the kiosk.
- South Hedland library – will open as scheduled. No computer, wifi or email access is available.
- South Hedland Aquatic Centre – open as scheduled. Free entry. The kiosk will be closed.
- Wanangkura Stadium – open for members only. The creche will be open on Sunday as scheduled. No additional bookings for squash/court hire can be made. The kiosk will be closed. Members can continue to make online bookings for classes.
The maintenance work will impact the phone systems into the facilities listed above. Customers will not be able to contact these facilities by phone.
The afterhours phone system will be operating as normal and can be accessed via 9158 9300.
It is important that we undertake this urgent maintenance work as quickly as we can to stabilise the network. We acknowledge this may disrupt plans and create some interruption for the community. We apologise for the inconvenience.
We anticipate the repairs will be completed by 6am Monday 5 May.
We will provide an update if there are any changes to this timeline.
