Live it, Tell it, Creative Hedland

Live it, Tell it, Creative Hedland is the consultation process the Town is undertaking to inform the Arts and Culture Strategy 2019-2022. This exercise is built on the success of Live it, Tell it, the Town’s community engagement exercise which informed the development of the Strategic Community Plan 2018-2028.

Live it, Tell it, Creative Hedland will run from Monday 6 May until Monday 27 May, consisting of online surveys, focus groups, pop up stalls and other stakeholder engagement actions. We want to engage the public and find out what you think to ensure the final strategy reflects the people of Hedland, their experiences and their stories.

This is a great opportunity to contribute your views on the direction of arts and cultural offerings in Hedland. For example, would you like to see more activation of the libraries for artistic purposes, or perhaps more public art? Are you satisfied with the live entertainment events the Town runs, or would you like to see these change? Now, you can influence the town’s decision making in arts and culture.

Please keep an eye out on the Town of Port Hedland Facebook page for updates on upcoming consultation sessions.

What is the Arts and Culture Strategy?

The Arts and Culture Strategy (2019-2022) will be a strategic document which provides Council with strategies, plans and actions it should take in relation to delivering arts and cultural experiences in Hedland over the next 3 years. In the past, arts and cultural programming has not been informed by an overarching strategy with common objectives. It’s important for the Town to achieve purpose and effectiveness in its programming moving forward. Importantly, we want a strategy which is inclusive and culturally appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Cultural and Linguistically Diverse stakeholders.

What Themes will the Strategy Cover?

The strategy will seek community input on the following themes:

  • What is our arts and culture vision for Hedland?
  • What are the outcomes we should be seeking to achieve?
  • What are the priority focus areas?
  • What role can Hedland’s organisations, the community and the Town play in delivering these?
