Jan Breddy, Coach of the Year 2024
What does it mean to have won the Coach of the Year 2024?
Winning Coach of the Year for netball was incredibly special. It reflected the hard work, commitment, and passion poured into the season not just by me, but by the entire teams I’ve coached.
Netball is such a strong part of our local sporting culture, and to be acknowledged in that space was both humbling and energising.
It reminded me why I love coaching: seeing players grow in confidence, skill, and teamwork and knowing I’ve played a part in that journey.

Brayden Barr, Umpire of the Year 2024
How do the Sports Awards positively impact the Hedland community?
The Sports Awards play a vital role in celebrating the spirit of Hedland. They shine a light on the many individuals—players, coaches, volunteers and officials—who contribute to making our local sports scene vibrant and inclusive. These awards foster community pride, encourage participation and strengthen connections across clubs and codes. For young people especially, they offer inspiration and a sense of belonging. Recognising local achievements helps build a culture of appreciation and support, which is essential for the continued growth of sport in Hedland.
This event is proudly supported by Principal Partner BHP, alongside the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport.
