Hedland is gearing up for a jam-packed week of Youth Week events, activities and programs to celebrate the contributions of young people in the community.
The 2024 theme, "Head, Body, Heart," champions a holistic approach to wellbeing, encouraging young people to explore and express their mental, physical, social, and emotional health.
Mayor Peter Carter said the week was a highlight on the Hedland calendar for young people and children aged from 8-18 years to get involved in a range of activities and events.
“Starting 5 April, the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub will host the opening event, marking the beginning of a week filled with activities designed by and for young people,” Mayor Carter said.
"Youth Week in Hedland is a fantastic opportunity for young people to showcase their talents, express their ideas, and discuss issues that matter to them.
"The Town of Port Hedland is committed to celebrating the achievements of young individuals and their invaluable contributions to the community.”
Youth Week events are designed to empower participants, foster a sense of belonging and encourage community engagement.
The Hedland Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has been instrumental in planning this year’s events, working closely with the Town to ensure a diverse and engaging lineup reflects the interests and aspirations of Hedland's youth.
"The Hedland YAC has helped shape the week of events that resonate with their peers, truly embodying the spirit of Youth Week," Mayor Carter said.
"The Town is committed to amplifying the voices of Hedland’s young people and providing collaboration opportunities – and this week is testament to their ideas and dedication.
“Thanks and recognition must also go to the Hedland community organisations who have played a vital role in helping create such an engaging program of events.”
