Nominations are now open for the 2025 Town of Port Hedland and BHP Community Sports Awards, celebrating the passion, grit, and community spirit of our local sporting champions.
The Community Sports Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and teams while showcasing the profound role sports play in strengthening Port Hedland’s social fabric. By fostering connection, promoting health, and inspiring excellence - sports unite our community and enhance liveability across Hedland.
From grassroots initiatives to competitive excellence, local sporting activities foster inclusivity, encourage healthy lifestyles, and create opportunities for residents of all ages to connect.
By recognising those who go above and beyond, the awards inspire others to get involved, ensuring the continued growth of our vibrant sporting culture in Hedland.
Categories include Junior Sportsman of the Year, Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Sports Person of the Year, Coach of the Year, Umpire/Official of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Service to Sport, and Sporting Group of the Year.
“The Community Sports Awards honour the exceptional achievements of individuals and teams shaping Hedland’s thriving sports scene,” Manager of Events, Arts and Culture, Khristle Barr said.
“From young athletes to tireless volunteers, our champions show what it means to build a stronger, healthier Hedland.”
Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony and receive cash prizes of $1,000 for individual categories, and $2,000 for Sporting Group of the Year, thanks to our generous sponsors.
“Sport is about more than just competition and games, it’s a powerful connector that brings people together, fosters belonging and helps communities thrive,” BHP Lead Principal Community, Patrik Mellberg said.
“We’re excited to get behind the 2025 Community Sports Awards and recognise those who have made a real impact.”
