The Town has received a Gazette notification that confirms the following:
- The offices of members of the Town of Port Hedland Council are declared to be vacant.
- Jessica Shaw; Martin Aldridge; and Ronald Stanley Yuryevich have been appointed as commissioners of the Town of Port Hedland until the offices of members of the council are filled again and the new council holds its first meeting.
- An election to fill vacant offices is 28 March 2026.
- The election for Port Hedland, that was scheduled for 18 October 2025 is cancelled.

The Town has received confirmation from the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety of an extension to adopt the Council’s Annual Budget for 2025/26. The Town’s Budget preparations have been completed. You can view the draft Annual Budget 2025/26 paper here.
The Town’s staff continue to deliver programs and services for the community. Operational work can procced as normal. The Town is unable to progress new capital works projects until the draft Annual Budget 2025/26 has been adopted.
The Town is currently running a community sentiment survey, the 2025 MARKYT Community Scorecard. The survey remains open and will close on 12 September. Feedback from the community on the Town’s services, facilities, and leadership is vital. The results, expected to be finalised by November and made available to the community soon after, will be taken into consideration by any new governance arrangement, and be used to help inform the 2026 Council Plan.
