The Town of Port Hedland is pleased to have formed a partnership with De Grey Mining that will see significant new investment into community projects.

The two parties have struck a Community Contribution Agreement under which De Grey has committed to funding a multi-million-dollar investment over three years, once its Hemi Gold Project reaches commercial production, currently anticipated for 2027/28.

The investment will be made into mutually agreed projects, likely to include construction of affordable housing for key service workers or the development of the transformational Sports and Arts Precinct.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said he was pleased to celebrate confirmation of the partnership with De Grey Mining.

“The future success of our mining partners goes hand in hand with the future success of Hedland as a community – it would be very difficult to have one without the other,” Mayor Carter said.

“We continue to work alongside the resources industry to progress the future of Hedland, including addressing key liveability challenges such as access to affordable housing.”

De Grey Mining Managing Director Glenn Jardine said his company was proud to be sharing the future success of the Hemi Gold Project with the Port Hedland community.

“Since the discovery of Hemi in late 2019 we have been stepping up our engagement across the breadth of the Pilbara community and our partnership with the Town of Port Hedland is another important step forward.

“We are pleased that our future investment will result in improved outcomes for certain key issues facing local residents and stakeholders.”
