Partnership helping to strengthen community safety

The Town of Port Hedland continues to work closely with WA Police to advance community safety initiatives across our region.

Over the past 12 months, this partnership has grown through the introduction of new technology and enhanced coordination.

Recently, Commissioner Martin Aldridge and Town staff met with WA Police representatives to reinforce our shared commitment to community safety and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

A significant development supporting this work is the State Government’s 2025 CCTV Election Commitment, which is funding the installation of five new CCTV cameras across Port and South Hedland — identified by WA Police as priority community safety locations.

This is part of the Town’s rollout of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, which provide WA Police with accurate, real-time data to assist with investigations, deter antisocial behaviour, track stolen vehicles and improve responses for vulnerable community members.

The Town acknowledges and thanks the WA State Government and WA Police for their support and partnership. These collaborations are critical in responding to community expectations and building a safer, stronger, and more resilient Hedland.

Together, we’re delivering meaningful improvements to community safety.
