The Hedland Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has unveiled a bespoke brand that embodies the essence of Hedland and represents the group’s commitment and aspirations.

The YAC, established by the Town of Port Hedland, aims to build and provide a platform for the group to empower young people on the matters important to them.

Mayor Peter Carter said the new brand marks a milestone in raising awareness of the group’s ongoing efforts to amplify the voices of young residents.

“This emblem not only represents our shared heritage, but also serves as a symbol for the aspirations of Hedland’s young people.

“Young people have insights that are valuable to our planning and service delivery, and the YAC provides the opportunity to share perspectives for a more liveable Hedland.”

In collaboration with Impact Digi, an Aboriginal-owned and Pilbara-based creative agency, YAC members contributed to crafting a logo design to encapsulate the spirit of the YAC and its mission to foster positive change within the community.

The vibrant logo draws inspiration from colours of the diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage of the region, with the design paying homage to Marapikurrinya, the hand-shaped formation where rivers merge with the ocean.

YAC member Troy Wood shared his enthusiasm, stating that being part of the YAC has been a rewarding experience.

“This logo represents our collective vision for a thriving and inclusive community where every young person's voice is heard and valued.

“It is great to have a symbol that represents the work we do and acknowledges the positive value we bring to a range of plans and projects.”

Beau Keller echoed the sentiment saying the logo signifies the group’s advocacy work in ensuring young peoples’ voices are heard.

“This logo represents a strong Youth Advisory Council that has a passion for community empowerment and a want for collaboration with all young people in Hedland.”
