The Town of Port Hedland has appointed Kenn Donohoe as Acting Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Donohoe replaces Mark Dacombe, whose 12-month contract ends on 28 November.
Mr Donohoe has a wealth of experience in the Pilbara and north-west WA, having previously been CEO of the Shire of Ashburton (2020-2025) and Shire of Broome (2008-2017). He has also previously been CEO at Whitsunday Regional Council, Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, Shire of Chittering and Shire of Mount Marshall.
Mr Donohoe knows Port Hedland well, having worked at the Town of Port Hedland from 1994-1999, finishing up in the role of Deputy Chief Executive.
Mr Donohoe said his priority was to continue to support the Town’s administration to maintain high standards and assist the Town’s Commissioners to prepare the organisation for a new Council and a permanent CEO.
“I’m delighted to be returning to Port Hedland. It’s a great community, with huge potential," he said.
"My appointment is for six months, or until the permanent CEO takes up their role. I’ll be living in Port Hedland during my tenure, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the community, better understanding what’s needed and doing everything I can to ensure things are set up for a positive future."
Chair of Commissioners Jessica Shaw said she was pleased to have Mr Donohoe join the Town as the Acting CEO, bringing with him a great deal of local government leadership experience.
“I’ve been very clear about our role as Commissioners – to steady the ship, to ensure the organisation is set up for success, and to help drive the progress this community deserves," she said.
"I’m confident Kenn, with his wealth of local government leadership experience, will be able to support us to do just that."
Ms Shaw said outgoing Acting CEO Mark Dacombe had provided stability and focus to the organisation over the past 12 months.
"Mark's professionalism and commitment to Port Hedland and the organisation has been outstanding,” she said.
Mr Donohoe was officially appointed at Wednesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting and will begin on 28 November 2025. His contract is for six months, unless a permanent CEO is appointed in that time. Recruitment for a permanent CEO is progressing.
