King’s Birthday Public Holiday

Commissioners have endorsed the proposed date for the alternative King’s Birthday public holiday in 2026. The proposed date, to be confirmed by Western Australian Governor - would be observed on Monday, 3 August 2026. The Town has a long history of observing the King's Birthday public holiday to coincide with the Hedland Cup race meeting.

 

Public Art Masterplan

Commissioners have adopted the Town’s Public Art Masterplan 2025–2035, a strategic framework designed to guide the planning, commissioning, delivery, and maintenance of public art across the Town. This plan reflects the community’s aspirations for vibrant, culturally rich, and inclusive spaces that celebrate Hedland’s unique identity, heritage, and creativity.

 

Public Health Plan

At Wednesday night's Ordinary Council Meeting, Commissioners endorsed the Town’s first Public Health Plan (PHP). This milestone marks an exciting step forward in establishing an evidence-based framework for action and advocacy around healthcare services, accessibility, and community education in Hedland. The Public Health Plan will be available for public viewing in the coming weeks.

 

2026 Election

The Western Australian Electoral Commission has been appointed to run an extraordinary election for the Town of Port Hedland on March 28, 2026. Commissioners endorsed the Electoral Commissioner to conduct the election, which will be held as a postal election. Ballot papers will be available at council locations in Port and South Hedland before and on election day.
