Port and South Hedland have been named finalists in five categories of the 2025 Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards.
Hedland will be looking to defend the State Title it won at the 2024 awards, having again been named finalist in that category.
The Town of Port Hedland and Care for Hedland entered into a formal partnership in 2023 to help deliver the Town’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2022-2027.
Manager Environmental Services Michael Cuvalo said the recognition Hedland was gaining with its environmental and sustainability programs and initiatives showed the value of that partnership.
Port and South Hedland have been named finalists in these categories:
- State Award alongside Kalgoorlie, Sandstone, Moora and Williams.
- Environmental Sustainability for the vertebrate pest management program and turtle-friendly solar-powered lighting
- Waste Management for the Hedland Resources Recovery Initiatives
- Community Containers for Change Award (Care for Hedland and Hedland Men’s Shed); and
- General appearance for clean-ups with Care for Hedland.
“Our partnership with Care for Hedland has not only helped raise awareness of environmental and sustainability issues, but also implemented initiatives that are delivering long-lasting benefits,” Mr Cuvalo said.
“We’re thrilled Hedland has once again been named as a finalist in multiple Tidy Towns awards categories because it shows our dedication to environmental sustainability is being recognised.”
The state awards will be held at Optus Stadium in Perth on 28 November.
