The Town of Port Hedland is pleased to announce the return of its much loved Festive Lights Competition for 2025, proudly powered by Horizon Power.
Running from Monday, 10 November to Thursday, 18 December, the competition invites Hedland residents to transform their homes into dazzling displays of festive cheer, with more than $4000 in cash prizes on offer.
Now a staple of the local holiday calendar, the Festive Lights Competition brings together neighbours, families and friends to share in the joy of the season. Whether it’s a few twinkling lights or a full-blown outback wonderland, every display helps light up Hedland’s streets and spirit.
This year’s prize categories include Best Display ($1,500), Runner-Up Best Display ($750), Best First Year Display ($500), People’s Choice ($800), Entrant Encouragement ($250), and a new category for Best Street Display, in which the winners will win a "Movie Under the Stars" experience for their street.
Manager of Events, Arts and Culture Khristle Barr said the competition continued to be a highlight of the festive season in Hedland.
“The Festive Lights Competition brings neighbours together, lights up our streets, and spreads joy across the community,” Mrs Barr said.
“We’re proud to support this tradition and look forward to seeing the creativity on display again this year. A big thank you to Horizon Power for helping us make this competition possible.”
Registrations open on 10 November and close on 3 December. Residents can register online, even if their displays are still in progress. Judging will take place on 8 December, with winners announced on 10 December.
The popular People’s Choice voting opens on 11 December and closes on 17 December, with the winner revealed on 18 December.
A digital trail map of all registered displays will be released on 5 December, giving the community a chance to explore the festive magic across Hedland — from South to Port and everywhere in between.
Participation is free and open to all Hedland residents.
