The next chapter for the former Port Hedland Yacht Club site is officially underway, with the lease now signed and the keys formally handed over to Fremantle favourites, Running with Thieves.
Running with Thieves officials joined Commissioner Martin Aldridge and Town of Port Hedland administration staff for the official handover on Thursday 19 March.
The Running with Thieves team has confirmed that once the site is ready, the community can look forward to a grand opening weekend celebration. More information on the opening date will be provided soon.
Running with Thieves successfully secured the lease of the much-loved site just before last year’s festive holiday break, and they have worked with the Town over the past couple of months on the finer, but essential, details to ensure its long-term success.
The grounds are already coming to life, with fresh turf, new fencing and an upgraded playground helping set the tone for a relaxed, modern and welcoming venue.
With a strong track record in vibrant, community-focused hospitality, Running with Thieves is set to deliver a new waterfront destination where Port Hedland residents, and visitors alike can gather to create memories, enjoy a cold beer and relish in a delicious food menu.
Managing Director of Running with Thieves, Toby Hagen said he and the team were thrilled to be bringing their brand to the Pilbara.
“Our goal is to create a space that feels distinctly local, where great company, premium drinks, and a relaxed waterfront setting come together to create something truly special,” he said.
This collaborative project will complement Hedland’s unique coastal setting, while supporting social wellbeing, economic flow on benefits and a stronger sense of place.
Town Director Regulatory Services, Kylie Davies, said the positive response from the community had shown there was strong appetite for new services and experiences that brought people together in Port Hedland.
“By supporting developments like this, we’re not only helping to create more choice and opportunity but demonstrating the Town’s long-term vision for a more vibrant, welcoming and liveable Hedland,” Ms Davies said.
“We are incredibly proud and excited to be part of this next chapter.”
National Sales Manager of Running With Thieves, David McKenna commented that bringing Fremantle to the Pilbara is so much more than just great food and drinks”
“Running With Thieves Port Hedland will become a bustling new hub, bringing a much-needed refresh to the community - live music, regular awesome venue activations combined with community and sport clubs' events.”
“Not only will it provide a safe space for families and fans alike, but we will also provide a courtesy bus to ensure all throughout greater Hedland can enjoy the venue without risk.”
With these vital foundations now in place, progress is visible and momentum is building – and the Hedland community can look forward to seeing the vision come to life in a matter of months.
