The much loved Sunset Food Markets return to Port Hedland for another exciting season, with five markets planned for 2026.
Presented by the Town of Port Hedland with BHP as Principal Partner, the Sunset Food Markets will again transform Marapikurrinya Park into a vibrant evening destination, featuring food trucks, family friendly activities, live acoustic music by regional performers and a licensed bar, all under the warm glow of festoon lighting as ships pass through the harbour.
The first market of the season will be held on Friday 17 April, kicking off a series that builds on the strong momentum and community support from last year.
BHP Lead Principal Community Patrik Mellberg said the Sunset Food Markets were more than just a great night out.
“Community events like the markets play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening community connection,” he said.
“BHP is proud to partner with the Town of Port Hedland, supporting events that ensure Port Hedland remains a thriving community and a great place to live.”
Special themed events include the Pride Sunset Food Market on 19 June, celebrating diversity and inclusion, and a Volunteer Appreciation Market on 16 October, recognising the invaluable contribution volunteers make across the community.
Events, Arts and Culture Manager Khristle Barr said the Sunset Food Markets had become a highlight on the Town’s events calendar, with thousands of people enjoying the 2025 season.
“Last year’s Sunset Food Markets showed just how much our community values relaxed, inclusive events that bring people together,” Mrs Barr said.
“From the food and live music to the atmosphere under the lights as the sun sets over the port, the markets really captured the spirit of Hedland. We can’t wait to build on that success with five markets this year, including some special themed events for the community to enjoy.”
The return of the markets in 2026 reflects the Town’s commitment to delivering accessible, high-quality events that enhance livability and bring people together.
The markets are free, with families encouraged to bring a picnic rug or camp chair, sample a wide range of food options and soak up the relaxed portside atmosphere.
The Sunset Food Markets are accessible for wheelchairs and prams, with accessible parking, seating and toilet facilities available onsite. Social Stories are also available to help visitors understand what to expect and feel comfortable attending the event.
Food vendors, musicians and community groups interested in getting involved are encouraged to contact events@porthedland.wa.gov.au.
