Two bright young talents from the Town of Port Hedland have received state-level recognition as semi-finalists at the prestigious WA Training Awards held in Perth last week.
Sienna Bennett and Sophie Marlow are part of the Town’s Shape Your Future program, which is an initiative that offers a variety of traineeships across the organisation, with the aim of providing career pathways to the community.
Through this program, they’ve gained valuable experience working across diverse teams including Sports and Recreation and Governance, contributing to key community events and operations.
Sienna recently completed a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation while supporting major programs such as SALT (Senior Adults Living Triumphantly) Ship to Shore, and the Hedland Sports+Rec Expo. Sienna also currently works as a lifeguard at the pools.
Sophie Marlow is currently finishing a Cert IV in Business Administration and has led impactful initiatives in process mapping and data migration, ultimately earning a permanent role on the Governance team.
Their achievements highlight the power of accessible training pathways for regional youth, and the Town couldn’t be prouder.
Applications for the next round of traineeships reopen in September. If you, or someone you know is interested, and keen to follow in their footsteps, we encourage you to keep an eye on the Town's social media channels.
Congratulations to both finalists and best of luck!
