As cyclone season commences in the Pilbara region, the Town of Port Hedland is urging all residents and local businesses to take early action.

Whilst the Town is not the official spokesperson for cyclones, the Town is taking a proactive approach in ensuring residents and local businesses are aware and prepared.

Michael Cuvalo, Manager Environmental Services at the Town said residents leaving town over the festive season should not be complacent and to prepare their home as early as possible.

“Cyclones are unpredictable and we’re urging every household to prepare now by securing property, reviewing emergency plans, and staying informed through the official channels.”

“Residents shouldn’t rely solely on past experiences. As we know, cyclones evolve and the best thing you can do for you, your loved ones and your community - is to prepare.”

“This means strapping down your outdoor furniture and belongings if you’re leaving town for a few weeks or pruning large trees – every bit counts towards a safer, more resilient community,” said Michael.

The Town also urges residents to familiarise themselves with the updated Australian Warning System the Department of Fire and Emergency Services introduced last year.
