Teddy Bears Picnic brings hundreds of families together

Hundreds of Hedland families came together for a morning of fun at the 2026 Teddy Bears Picnic, held at JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub on Thursday 22 October.

Coordinated by the Hedland Early Years Network and Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation, the free community event welcomed 437 attendees, with children aged five and under enjoying music, storytelling, games, arts and crafts, face painting and plenty of teddy bear-themed fun.

One of the highlights was the Teddy Bear Hospital, supported by the Western Australian Country Health Service paediatric team and nurses, giving children the opportunity to bring their teddy bears along for some special care.

There were plenty of memorable moments throughout the morning, with children receiving teddy bears, having their faces painted and meeting mascot guests Elmo and Emmett from The Lego Movie, provided by Southbound Electrical.

The event was made possible through the involvement of 18 different stakeholders and community organisations, with support from organisations including Horizon Power, who joined together to help deliver a fun and welcoming morning for Hedland families.

The Teddy Bears Picnic is also an opportunity for parents, carers and young children to connect with local services and organisations in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.

A huge thank you to the Hedland Early Years Network, Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation, participating organisations and stakeholders, and everyone who came along and helped make the 2026 Teddy Bears Picnic such a successful community event.
